The Senior Displacement Mapping Project

Created in December 2017

How displacement is negatively affecting the elderly population of South Brooklyn, and why senior community-building is the best solution.

This project was completed in a GIS class at the Spatial Analysis and Visualization Initiative (SAVI) at Pratt Institute, predominately through the use of ArcMap. The project's goals were mainly to demonstrate how displacement in Brooklyn forced "groups" of seniors to disperse between 2006 and 2015, therefore limiting the elderly community's access to nearby resources. The design for the project involves maps with high contrast colors that create easily visible distinctions between the facets of each census tract throughout South Brooklyn.
